The All New AIC Dining Commons

AIC's Dining Commons building

It’s official! AIC hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 1, 2015 to mark the completion of the new dining commons on campus. The festivities began with a reception and remarks by President Vince Maniaci, AIC Board of Trustees Chair Peter Bittel and Vice Chair Frank Colaccino, ’73, Student Government Association President Alex Clark ’17, along with Matthew Wittmer, principal, Phase Zero Design, architects for the building, and Greg Coady, executive vice president, Compass Group, N.A., Chartwells Higher Education division. Chartwells is AIC’s food service provider.

AIC began a multi-million dollar renovation of the dining commons last spring. The new, state-of-the-art facility expanded the footprint of the previous dining commons’ space and includes a wider variety of seating and more abundant food options with an emphasis on healthy choices. The new DC includes a wide array of stations including a wood fired pizza oven and Mongolian grill (rumored to be a student favorite), all presented in a new, contemporary, dynamic, and open setting.

According to President Maniaci, “The new dining commons will be a place for students to come together in a much more comfortable and modern center, designed to serve the needs and expectations of today’s college students. It’s an important social and academic hub on campus. In fact, it is the one building nearly every student uses every day.”

With the local economy and workers in mind, seven Massachusetts companies worked on the project which began in April. It’s been a long time coming! The last renovation of the dining commons was in 1966 – nearly 50 years ago.

Fine dining, no reservations!
