Volunteers in Action

AIC faculty member and 2016 Pynchon Award recipient Gale Kirkwood

Named for Springfield’s founder, the Pynchon Award recognizes people from Western Massachusetts for longtime community involvement. Of the six outstanding citizens named as this year’s winners as recognition of their commitment to volunteerism and dedication to the community, AIC is proud to have two recipients as Board of Trustees members.

Gale Kirkwood was instrumental in locating a Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. She has helped raise $13 million for breast cancer research through Rays of Hope. AIC President Vince Maniaci nominated her for the Pynchon Award.

Jack Dill focuses his efforts on education and on affordable housing. In addition to his service to AIC, he also sits on the boards of the Mass Housing Investment Corp, Baystate Health, WGBY and the YMCA of Greater Springfield.
