Kathryn (Kary) Lewis, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor in the Exercise Science department at American International College. After 15 years in the business world, which included almost nine years in the real estate industry and six years in event planning, Dr. Lewis changed course and went back to school. She earned an M.S. in health promotion and disease prevention and a Ph.D. in exercise physiology, both from Springfield College. She also earned a B.S. in psychology from Denison University.
Since the completion of her PhD in 2017, Dr. Lewis held one-year full-time appointments at Westfield State University and Springfield College. While at Westfield State, she started and was the chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee for the Movement Science department. During the 2018-2019 academic year at Springfield College, she served on the Honors Program Advisory Committee and assisted in the external program review for the master’s program in Exercise Physiology. Dr. Lewis serves as the advisor to the Exercise Is Medicine® student program at AIC, Exercise Science Club, and Peer Mentor Program. Research and professional interests involve effective practices in teaching and learning physiological concepts, with a focus on equity and inclusion via the Universal Design for Learning paradigm.
