Dr. Jennifer L. Feitel is a retired Correctional Captain from the State of Connecticut Department of Correction (16 years as a supervisor/manager). She held both custody and treatment positions during her career. She supervised both adult and youth male inmates working with a diverse population. Dr. Feitel was an active member in the Department’s Correctional Emergency Response Team (Instructor and Operator) as a highly trained first responder for 18 years of her career. Because of her dedication and perseverance, she became well-versed in multiple training opportunities turned into instructor-led such as proper use of force (behavior management instructor), tactical instructor, less than lethal impact and chemical munitions, PR-24 instructor, and was a state-wide instructor at the Connecticut statewide Training Academy.
In addition to experience gained from various roles within the Connecticut Department of Correction, she also has a strong educational background in the study of corrections. As a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in criminal justice, she has a well-rounded knowledge of Criminology and Psychology. She chose to continue her educational pursuits as an Adjunct teacher with the University and Assistant Instructor at Goodwin University.
Directly preceding her work at American International College, Dr. Feitel worked as a Public Safety Officer and Corporal at the University of Hartford. This law enforcement position was a long dream of hers that allowed her to combine her passion for law enforcement and higher education. She excelled quickly and after a year, was fortunate to transition back into higher education working as an Assistant Professor for American International College.
Dr. Feitel knows the expectations of leaders are constantly evolving, and she intends to use her wisdom and guidance in and out of the classroom with the next generation of leaders in criminal justice.
