You may not know Leon Nguyen ’16 personally, but chances are you’ve seen his work in the Springfield-based newspaper The Republican. Now he’s telling his side of the story with some of his favorite moments he’s captured on camera.

PRESIDENT BENITEZ CONTINUES COMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS: President Hubert Benitez is actively engaging with the Western Mass community, posing the question, "How can AIC serve you better?"
Recently, President Benitez hosted a breakfast discussion with Springfield City Councilor and two-time AIC alumna Tracye Whitmore '06, MS '10, to explore ways to enhance the College's positive influence in the region. Whitmore was elected as Springfield City Councilor at Large in 2018 and later served as the first African American woman vice president of that body.
In 2020, she spearheaded the creation of the Black Lives Matter Mural in front of Springfield City Hall. In May of 2022, The Coalition for an Equitable Economy (CEE) announced the hiring of Whitfield as the new Executive Director. In that role, Whitfield leads the coalition’s efforts to ensure equitable access to capital for BIPOC small business owners throughout Massachusetts.

83RD MODEL CONGRESS: When you realize the 83rd Model Congress is this Friday😁 . Delegates from participating high schools will craft bills and constitutional amendments inspired by current world events. Past keynote speakers have included President Gerald Ford, then-Vice President Joseph Biden, Congressman Richard Neal, and Secretary of State John Kerry.
The Model Congress concludes with an awards ceremony at which the top delegates receive scholarships covering as much as full tuition for four years at AIC. We wish the best of luck to all the students partaking this year.
