Yellow Jackets Senior Recognition Dinner

The purpose of this event is to recognize and publicly thank all of the graduating seniors for their contributions to American International College and the athletic department. The Senior Recognition dinner provides an opportunity for all the student-athletes from the senior class to gather together under one roof. Nearly 90 seniors, family members, coaches, and administrators dine together on the evening before commencement, honoring the accomplishments of the senior class. The seniors are then each given a memento and we wish them well in their future endeavors.

The 2018 Yellow Jackets Senior Recognition Dinner will be held on Friday, May 9th in the Campus Center Auditorium.

Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

The AIC Yellow Jackets Club continues to preserve the traditions of AIC Athletics by nominating and inducting into the AIC Athletic Hall of Fame the most accomplished student-athletes who have ever competed at the College.

On Friday, October 20, 2017, the Yellow Jackets Club welcomed nine new members to the AIC Hall of Fame. Bidemi Balogun ’12, Bill Condon ’77, William (Billy) Connolly ’70, Larry Freed ’68, Gary Grodzicki ’74, Al Laude ’54, Joseph Pistone ’00, Amber Radomski ’03, and Nicole Sullivan ’01 & ’02 join over 100 student-athletes from AIC’s 24 varsity teams who have previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Our next Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in October of 2019.

Yellow Jackets 3.0 Club Induction Ceremony

There was a whole lot of hootin’, hollerin’, and standing room only as more than 500 athletic team members and their coaches packed AIC’s Griswold Theatre to attend the AIC Athletic Director’s 3.0 Club Induction. The annual ceremony, held at the beginning of the fall semester, recognizes those student-athletes who achieve a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher after attending AIC for one year or more.

At this year’s ceremony, 163 returning student-athletes were inducted, translating to more than 47% of the returning athletes. “I think this speaks to the importance that AIC places not only on athletic accomplishments but on academic success as well”, says AIC Athletic Director Matt Johnson. “For many of our students being able to maintain that balance of achievements in dual areas of their college life is important to helping them reach their full potential. They appreciate that sports and study are not mutually exclusive. Each requires dedication and perseverance.”

The purpose of the Athletic Director’s 3.0 Club is to recognize the student in student-athlete by saluting academic achievement with the hope that these young men and women will, in turn, be recognized as academic role models for all student-athletes, especially those new to AIC.

Cheering and team spirit abounded as every student-athlete was called by name. Additional recognition included announcing the highest GPAs on each team and the top 10 cumulative grade point averages.

Making the grade is a really big deal. The top three graduating seniors at Commencement in May were all student-athletes with GPAs beginning at 3.9.

Yellow Jackets Athletic Awards Ceremony

The many accomplishments of American International College student-athletes during the academic year are celebrated at the annual Yellow Jackets Athletic Awards Ceremony, hosted in late April in the Griswold Theater.

At this event, awards are presented to student-athletes who have made major contributions to the AIC athletic program during the past academic year with outstanding ability, character, and sportsmanship, for community service and outstanding performance or competitive improvement over an athletic career; to the male and female athletes showing outstanding contributions to intercollegiate athletics at AIC; to the most outstanding male and female athlete throughout his or her four years at AIC; to the student-athlete that best exemplifies AIC athletics in character, talent, and spirit; to the coach that works effectively within the department and displays tremendous leadership and dedication to the growth of their sport and their student-athletes; and to the male and female individuals from each class that best exemplify a well-rounded student-athlete based upon the current season.

Several academic awards are presented as well, including the SAAC Faculty Mentor Award, which is presented to a faculty member who has represented the NCAA Division II core values of learning, passion, service, resourcefulness, sportsmanship, and balance; and has exhibited “mentorship” for student-athletes and their institution; the Milton J. Piepul Merit Medal which is given to a senior who combines excellence on the field with excellence in the classroom, including a 3.5 GPA or higher; and the Alumni Award which is presented to seniors who excel in both academic scholarship and athletic achievement.

The team awards are also presented at the end of this ceremony.
