A Different Lens

Campus overview

More and more higher education officials feel a diversified administration, starting at the top, is essential for managing a 21st century college or university — for reasons far more meaningful than its symbolic nature. In Western Massachusetts, the lineup of college and university leaders represents a rainbow coalition.

The search for a new AIC president will come with a desire to reflect student diversity, according to Nicolle Cestero, executive vice president and chief of staff. “American International College is committed to access, opportunity, and diversity and has been since 1885, when the college was founded to provide higher education opportunities for immigrants coming to America. The mission of AIC has not changed,” Cestero said. “When interviewing candidates to fill open positions, we seek the most qualified individuals to fill those slots, while making every effort to reflect the diversity of our student body in those hiring decisions.”
