Counseling support and guidance

The Dexter Counseling Center offers a broad range of programs and services to assist students in dealing with life’s challenges and stresses before they become insurmountable. Our professional staff offers the following psychological services free of charge to students who are currently enrolled at American International College:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Specialized workshops
  • Student-Athlete counseling
  • Biofeedback counseling

Typical issues

We see people for a variety of reasons including:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Anxiety
  • Sexual assault
  • Homesickness
  • Depression issues
  • Substance use problems
  • Stress management
  • Interpersonal violence
  • Trauma
  • Grief

Confidentiality

We adhere to the American Psychological Association and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding confidentiality. The only time information can be shared is if the psychologist feels you are a danger to yourself or someone else.

Appointments & emergencies

Just call us or drop by to schedule an appointment. In some cases, you might be referred by a parent or a faculty member. If you feel your situation is an emergency, call us immediately. Should this happen outside of normal business hours, please call your dean or supervisor.
