Since September 1989, Massachusetts law, G.L. c. 15A, Section 18 has required every full-time and part-time student enrolled in an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts to participate in a Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) or in a health benefit plan with comparable coverage. A part-time student is defined as a student participating in at least 75% of the full-time curriculum.
The SHIP regulation (114.6 CMR 3.00: Student Health Insurance), implements the student health requirements and sets forth the minimum benefit levels and required services for a SHIP. The regulation also establishes the criteria by which a school may waive a student’s participation in SHIP upon demonstration of comparable insurance coverage.
Visit Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk for completion of the waiver or enrollment form. All waivers or enrollments must be completed online. This process must be completed annually.
The 2017 – 2018 rate for one year (August 1, 2017 – July 31, 2018) is $1870.
